Each VCA section's characteristic and thus the response to CVs can be set either linear or exponential. Linear is better for processing the amplitude of control voltages while exponential is better for audio signals as the human ear also has a exponential curve.
The initial level can be set manually with the gain potentiometer i.e you can open the VCA manually. The CV input has an attenautor for adjusting the modulation intensity.
In fall 2010 the module was changed to use the VCA circuit SSM2164. For this new version the amplification is not limited to 1 anymore. If the CV is increased even a higher amplification than 1 is possible. With a corresponding input level this may lead to distortion at the output because the output swing is limited to about +/-10V and clipping occurs.
Amplification "1" is obtained at about position "8" (i.e. 3 o'clock position) of the manual control "Gain" for both linear and exponential mode.
