Black Corporation - Deckard's Dream

Overview

Replicants are not clones! – Deckard’s Dream is a modern replica of the Yamaha CS-80. This mammoth of an instrument, which was released in the 70’s and weighs more than 90 kilos, not only influenced the music of the movie Blade Runner, but also albums made by, for instance, Kraftwerk, Vangelis or Jean Michel Jarre. The Black Corporation managed to stuff the eight-voice, two-layer analog synthesis system of the CS-80 into a compact 19” housing. Thanks to polyphonic aftertouch and MPE support, the instrument can be played very expressively. Its sound is warm, gentle and creamy. – A dream of a synthesizer.

Details

Deckard’s Dream is an eight-voice polyphonic, fully analog instrument. Its synthesis system consists of two subtractive layers which can be mixed. The result: Voluminous, creamy sounds. Thanks to the Dream’s automatic tuning function, the oscillators track perfectly. However, with the help of micro tuning options, it is possible to create drifting sounds reminiscent of vintage instruments. Besides the chromatic one, there are several other scales you can use to play the Deckard’s Dream. It is possible to store 128 presets. Polyphonic aftertouch and MPE support allow you to play the synthesizer expressively.

The synthesis layers each offer the following features:

  • VCO with sine, saw and pulse waves
  • Pulse waves can be altered in width (50 – 90 %)
  • PWM via a sine LFO
  • Noise generator
  • Discrete high-pass and low-pass filters with separate cutoff and resonance controls
  • ADSR filter envelope with adjustable initial and attack levels
  • ADSR VCA envelope
  • Velocity and aftertouch controls for filter brilliance and volume levels

Furthermore, there are the following global features:

  • Coarse and fine tune faders
  • Detune option for the second synthesizer layer
  • LFO with sine, saw, ramp, square and stepped random waveforms
  • LFO destinations: VCO, VCF, VCA
  • Crossfader for the synthesizer layers
  • Global filter control elements
  • Polyphonic aftertouch destinations: LFO speed, LFO to VCO amount, LFO to VCF amount, filter brilliance, volume level
  • Keyboard tracking adjustment for VCF and VCA
  • Unison mode
