Doepfer Dark Energy 2

This compact monophonic analog synthesizer is the successor of the very popular Dark Energy that has been discontinued due to obsolete electronic parts.

The oscillator now is sawtooth-based and has a new wave form, the clipped sawtooth instead of the triangle. The filter is no more a pure lowpass but a 12dB multimode filter with continuous transition between different filter types. The VCA has an exponantial characteristic. The rest of the circuitry remains unchanged.

VCO: analog sawtooth-based VCO with tune control and a three-position octave switch. Frequency modulation by LFO1 or ADSR. Pulse width can be set manually modulated by LFO2 or ADSR.
Wave form selector for sawtooth / off / clipped sawtooth. The sum of the selected waveform and the pulse is fed into the VCF (turn the PW control fully CCW to mute the pulse wave).
Due to the analog circuitry the VCO will be stable after a heat-up time of 30 minutes.

VCF: analog 12dB multimode filter; mode control for continuous transition from lowpass via notch to highpass and along to bandpass. The filter tracking is selectable between 0%, 50% and 100%. Resonance control, up to self-oscillation.
The XM control is an exponential cutoff-modulation potentiometer with selectable modulation source (LFO1 / off / ADSR) and polarizer function. The modulation source determined by the switch (LFO2 or ADSR) can modulate the cutoff frequency positive (right of center position) or negative (left of center position).

Analog VCA with exponential characteristic. Modulation by LFO1 or ADSR. The amplitude control is used to open the VCA manually what is very practical when you want to use the Dark Energy 2 for filtering external audio signals.

For modulation duties you´ll find two LFOs with selectable frequency ranges (up to audio range) waveforms and two selectable waveforms (triangle / off / square) and a ADSR type envelope generator.

The Dark Energy 2 has an integrated MIDI/CV interface that will not only control the synth internally but will output the CV and gate signals at 3.5mm sockets. This allows you for using the synth alternatively as a MIDI/CV interface. CV1 outputs note information (1V/octave), CV2 the pitch bend infromation, CV3 outputs volume/velocity and CV4 an assignable MIDI controller. Programming is done by the Learn button.

Expand the synth with the separately available Glide option for creating portamento effects.
