  1. Doepfer A-149-1 Quant./Stored Random Voltages

This module is based on the legendary Buchla 265 / 266 Source of Uncertainty and is a exceedingly complex random voltage generator. On the one hand it provides quantised random voltages with voltage controllable amplitude (or: amount of possible random voltages) and on the other hand random signals with 256 possible states whose probability and distribution can be set manually or per control voltage.

  2. Metabolic Devices - 2Win

2Win consists of two voltage-controlled window comparators. This type of circuit is ideal for chopping up audio material or control voltages into pulse waves. – For example, you can extract a whole series of pulses from one cycle of a sine wave. The results are useable for weird PWM effects or rhythmic figures. Envelopes with a re-trigger input can be extended with a loop function. Countless other areas of application are possible as well, of course.

  3. Mutable Instruments - Marbles

Marbles generates random sequences at three trigger outputs and a total of four CV outputs. Many of the channels are related to each other. Thus, instead of haphazard chaos, you get wild, yet coherent results. Thanks to a multitude of manually adjustable and voltage controllable parameters, the module’s behavior can be flexibly influenced. Synchronization to external clocks, control over repetition and progression of sequences as well as quantization are just a few examples.

  4. Snazzy FX - Kitty Eyes

Small module, big turmoil – Kitty Eyes is a compact chaos oscillator, which can be used as a sound generator or modulation source. Its X and Y outputs emit audio respectively CV signals of different phase and characteristics. – Ideal raw material for experimental drum and effect sounds or wild parameter modulations. The frequency can be adjusted via a potentiometer. The trigger output emits chaotic pulse sequences with variable intensity. – An excellent starting point for creating random drum patterns, but also usable as a sound source. The CV input of the module can process continuous control voltages, trigger signals and audio material. Accordingly, the results are very versatile.

  5. Frap Tools - Sapel

Advanced chance experiments – The Sapél is composed of a multichannel noise source and two sophisticated random sections. Additionally, the module features a dual clock generator. In detail, there are outputs for white, blue, pink and red noise. The random sections produce fluctuating and quantized voltages as well as sample and hold material. The clock generator consists of two channels, which can be combined. Each circuit offers a normal and a random clock output. Trigger options, a multitude of control voltage inputs and probability functions complete the Sapél’s functional range.

  6. Qu-Bit Electronix - Chance

Chance is an extremely flexible random voltage generator and noise source. The module not only generates classic, stepped and smooth random voltages, but signals based on wavetables as well. Additionally, there are rhythm, burst and clock outputs as well as connectors emitting analog plus digital noise. The circuit can be influenced via potentiometers and CV inputs in various ways. Using the Chance’s freeze function, it is possible to hold control signals indefinitely. Coin Toss jumbles all voltage values around.

  7. Erica Synths - Pico RND

Erica’s Pico RND combines a LFO, a random generator and a noise generator in one module. It produces sine and pulse waves. The latter vary arbitrarily in width. Furthermore, the circuit emits random triggers, sample and hold signals as well as white noise. The rate of waveforms and S&H stage are adjustable via a potentiometer. Additionally, there is a clock input.

  8. Verbos Electronics - Random Sampling

A tasty potpourri if various random functions, seasoned with some pinches of random and garnished with a rarely seen analog shift register.
Besides random the module can also generate audio signals, because the two fluctuating random voltages also can be used as voltage controlled piched noise sound sources and three different flavours of analog noise are a good base for drum sounds. Single stages of the analog shift register can be broken out and used as sample & hold units.

To recreate more or less every function of the Random Sampling using modules of an affordable manufacturer you would require more than the double space and it wouldn't be significantly cheaper.

  9. Steady State Fate - Ultra Random Analog

Random = an event lacking predictability. The Ultra Random Analog module provides you with more than enough of this, in a number of different styles:
Three clocked stepped signals based on sample & hold circuits: two are fed by internal noise, either hard stepped or smoothed by a slew circuit plus a third flavour which alternates betweeen both S&Hs and can be fed by external signals. Then there's an entirely voltage controllable fluctuating random output, a voltage controllable generator of random gates and triggers and finally a vactrol based integrator. And as the module needs a clock, it has a wide frequency range clock generator integrated, able to track 1V/octave.

  11. Epoch Modular - Benjolin

The Benjolin's circuitry is based on Rob Hordijk's well-known Blippoo Box, an unique instrument. It is a chaotic sound generator with 2 VCOs that are played autonomously by the "Rungler", a type of shift register that gets it's signals from the VCOs. A 2-pole filter with lowpass and high pass outputs is integrated in the Benjolin, too.

The Wogglebug: your personal monster for the modular system which can produce clocked stepped and smoothed random voltages, the ominous Woggle CV and featuring two oscillators that are controlled by random and finally the ringmodulated output of both VCOs. The module can be clocked externally but it has an clock generator and additionally a random gate burst generator, creating fast, short random pulses.

The new version in black is smaller, has a stable clock, CV of influence parameter and some other minor changes, see below.
